The upcoming referendum on The Voice has given birth to a campaign that is both shameful and shameless: “If You Don’t Know, Vote No”.

This frightful, goonish championing of a lack of knowledge and a decrying of learning appeals to humanity’s most base instincts of laziness. For someone who has been our nation’s Attorney General, and intends to be so again, how can Michaelia Cash justify advising people not to learn? It’s the opposite to how she arrived at her position. She had to learn. No university lecturer would tell you to close your books and not find out the answers to things you didn’t know. She’s a shame to her profession and to the Parliament, along with all of those who stand with her.

How’s this for a concept? If you don’t know, find out. That’s right. Find out. Power yourselves up and find out.

And there’s another thing. If you’ve been hooked on the line that there is no detail, have a read of the 272 page report on The Voice co-authored by Tom Calma and Marcia Langton and delivered to the desks of the Federal Government in July 2021. There’s the detail you’ve been told doesn’t exist.
